What I love in KDE3.5 (which I still use) and what stops me migrating to XFCE is the fact KDE3.5 has the ability to configure keyboard shortcuts to a lot of actions. Switching workspaces, launching programs is fast and efficient with keyboard. I am not saying there should be only navigation with keyboard :-) I am saying that relying heavily on mouse (as with current XFCE) slows down keyboard-users.
Everything is doable with the keyboard in xfwm4. Maybe you didn't look at the right place (wm-settings)?
@Olivier, thank you -- this pretty good news. Indeed, I checked the settings again, and found out how to bind shortcut with program. But still no success with workspaces. It lists only workspaces, and all I can do is rename them.

It really seems to me that you're looking in the wrong settings, you need to check the window manager settings, not the keyboard settings (yeah, I known it's confusing at times).
Thank you and sorry, but indeed this is confusing :-).
