Description MR ZenWiz 2014-08-28 08:33:16 CEST
At work I have an Xubuntu 14.04 installed with xfce4 4.10 on a dual quad-Xeon machine. The desktop background there is a solid color, which is the way I like it (see https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-3x0QT9-7fILW1HRWFXUXhQa2s/edit?usp=sharing for the desktop settings window).

However, on my home desktop running the same OS/WM on a Phenom II x6, I cannot turn off the background image, and there does not appear to be any option to control this (see https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-3x0QT9-7fIcFpveUE1RnNQYmM/edit?usp=sharing).

There needs to be a control to turn the background image on or off.

Also, I noticed that on my work machine, if I bring up the desktop window, it automatically switches my background to 127,0,0 on whichever screen I bring it to, and I have to go in and reset it to what I like (0,0,20). Nothing should change like that without my permission (mouse click or enter). Nothing.

Thank you.

You'll notice that on your work desktop the style is set to "none", can you try doing that on your home desktop as well? It should disable the wallpaper.

The other issue (the background color changing) should be resolved with a patch pushed a couple days ago. It will be available in the next dev release of xfdesktop.

Any chance you can notify me/us (the world) when that becomes the released xfdesktop?

Will that become part of an Xubuntu software update?

Thanks.

Sure thing! It usually gets posted to the Xfce mailing lists (users, dev, and announce). Is there anywhere specific you would like?

Did changing the style to none remove the background for you? Don't want to close a report if you found a bug.

That I can't answer. You'd have to ask the Xubuntu devs. They usually let me know if they'd like a new release by a specific date, which I'll happily do for any distribution.

Yes, the style change worked. The red is annoying.

This looks like the Ubuntu launchpad bug for the color change on xfdesktop-settings launch https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfdesktop4/+bug/1313728 You can verify the fix does solve the issue and request it to be included in their next release or backported to their previous? I'm not sure how they handle all that stuff.

Glad I can be of some help. Marking this issue resolved.
