I propose that a theme can specify different pixmaps while maximized, for example, title-3-active-maximized.xpm. If not present, it would revert to the normal version of that particular pixmap.

Indeed, and would also be good if the title could change its height at maximization according to corresponding pixmap, so that it would be possible to remove the top part of maximized window's border, not only left&right&bottom.
