yum remove rsyslog will prevent saved session from restoring

On Fedora 20, if I "yum remove rsyslog", then I notice that my xfce session, the apps I had open when I logged out, do not restore when I log in. When I re-install rsyslog, the session restore works again and the apps load when I log in.
