Create a new file and a new folder on the desktop. Now drag and drop the file into the folder. The file icon will remain visible and allows further interaction. xfdesktop 4.11.4 (git/master)

Close, but no cigar... works a treat unless you open the new folder before the drag and drop, in which case the behaviour is as before. viz: create the two new files and a new folder open the new folder drag one of the files in and it leaves a ghost copy on the desktop like before. ugh! many thanks to Thaddaus for the ppa and Eric for the fix. nice to have a working vol control again and very nearly a working file manager regards, Ian
