Actual desktop right click menu

In past versions of XFCE there was a simple tick box to put the whole application menu directly in the top level right click menu of the desktop. I personally considered this to be one of the best features of XFCE and morn it's loss.

I understand that there is still an option to add the application menu as a sub-menu of the desktop right click menu, and I use this, but EVERY time I launch an application, I right click on the desktop and cruise through a list of useless options that I haven't touched since the first day I installed and de-vanilla-ed my XFCE.

I cruise past the whole of this 'first day of installation' menu hunting for the single line item at the very other end of this middle menu. I then have to pause over that very last item, because I then have to click again, and clicking a pixel too far will close the whole menu.

I then have to drag the mouse across to the menu I wanted in the first place.

It lacks the speed and elegance of the old Applications Menu directly on Right Click option.

If there is still the old switch buried somewhere in the config system with no gui checkbox that I can manually add with Settings Editor or some such, then that would also be a perfectly acceptable solution for my purposes, but I ask that you re-evaluate the convenience of the direct right click apps menu on the desktop. I suggest to you that, if you do try a desktop right click apps menu for a while, then you will quickly find the applications menu icon on a task bar to be a pointless anachronism better suited to lesser desktop environments made by other people.

If you tend to also typically use either a browser window or a terminal for most of what you do, you may get a surprise as to the speed possible.

The described behavior can be enabled by changing the icon type to 'None' or 'Minimized application icons' (Desktop Settings > Icons).

Solved by applying the settings recommended above.

Unfortunately on Funtoo, when I do this, I get an initial right click desktop menu that contains just:
[ ] Applications -->:

with the Application menu still in a submenu of a much shorter primary menu.

This just makes it fiddlier to navigate to the Application menu as I have to traverse a single entry high menu to get to the Applications menu.
