the following works in xterm correctly:

  echo -e '\e[5m Blink Text\e[m\n'

Other ANSI/VT100 Control sequences seems to work correctly

vte doesn't support blinking, and there are no current plans to add this (mis)feature.  See https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=579964
