I use Skype a lot and whenever it notifies me the buttons for the 'Window Buttons' applet constantly blink, and if I have a lot of different windows open I end up with a lot of blinking lights at the top of the screen which is quite distracting.

It would be nice if it was possible to make the button change colour just one time and stay that way until I click on it. Not that it matters, but this is also what happens in Windows 7 or XP, i.e. the colour of the button changes just once and doesn't blink.

I'm new to XFCE and almost completely delighted I've made the switch. But blinking window buttons are an annoyance and very distracting. I realise it's pathetic, but on more than one occasion I've found myself cursing at the screen, "Yes, I know! But I'm too BUSY right now! Stop NAGGING me! Now, what was that important thing I was doing..." ;-)

Please can this behaviour be made into an option? As in: can users choose to have no notifications in the window button panel whatsoever? Shouldn't the application's original alert dialog should be enough on its own? Alerts about alerts - why?

kerneljack's suggestion is a good one and a huge improvement on the current behaviour, but I would find differently coloured buttons distracting and ugly. Perhaps the button could change its brightness? Or something more subtle? But as I say, I'd prefer to have the option to turn it off completely.

For now we won't make this an option.
