It works fine with the attached patch. It doesn't build since 2.6.24 kernel.

This is not limited to x86_64 but also happens on i386 and other platforms

I doubt that it is dependent on the kernel version because /usr/include/sys/types.h is provided by glibc-headers (on Fedora, no idea what the package is called on Debian). Do you know which glibc Debian used when you first hit that problem?

/usr/include/sys/types.h is provided by libc6-dev here, but /usr/include/linux/types.h is provided by linux-libc-dev, which are the kernel userspace headers. The first problem appeared with linux-libc-dev 2.6.24.
