Description Claudius Euteneuer 2007-01-10 19:37:54 CET
User-Agent:       Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; de-AT; rv:1.7.12) Gecko/20060607 Debian/1.7.12-1.2
Build Identifier:

thunar closes herself (?) while clicking in a directory in my home directory. If I first look through filesystem->home->Lehrer->claudius->anyDirectory thunar doesn't close.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. I open thunar by clicking on 'Persönliches Verzeichnis'. (personal directory?)
2. In the tree-view I click on the triangular on the left of my username.
3. I click on one of my directories to see what's in it.
4. thunar closes immediately.

Interesting:
1. same as above
2. I first open my home by clicking on
    -> Dateisystem (filesystem?)
    -> home
    -> Lehrer
    -> claudius
    -> any directory  => thunar doesn't close
3. _Then_ I do the same as in 2. to 4. like above and now thunar doesn't close!

Does appear in 0.4.0RC2 (testing in Debian) too.
Actual Results:
thunar closes. I have to open her one more time.

Expected Results:
It should show the contents of that directory.

Details of my config:
- Server with LDAP-user-authentication.
- home-directories on the server, exported: /home/Lehrer/claudius is the name of my home.

Try stopping famd, that should fix the problem. It is generally suggested to use Gamin instead of FAM, because Gamin runs as user, while famd runs as root. NFS exported file systems usually deny root access and so famd keeps telling Thunar that the folder doesn't exist or was deleted.

I'm already using gamin-0.1.8-1. (k3b doesn't like fam)

Does the process crash?

BTW: Thunar is male. ;-)

yes.
I started out of an xterm:

--- out-begin ---
claudius@Client-A236:~$ /usr/bin/Thunar file:///home/Lehrer/claudius
process 5604: D-Bus library appears to be incorrectly set up; failed to read machine uuid: Failed to open "/var/lib/dbus/machine-id": Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden
See the manual page for dbus-uuidgen to correct this issue.

(Thunar:5604): thunar-vfs-WARNING **: Konnte keine Verbindung zum HAL Dienst aufbauen: Failed to connect to socket /var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden
process 5604: D-Bus library appears to be incorrectly set up; failed to read machine uuid: Failed to open "/var/lib/dbus/machine-id": Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden
See the manual page for dbus-uuidgen to correct this issue.
Thunar: Failed to connect to the D-BUS session bus: Failed to execute dbus-launch to autolaunch D-Bus session
--- out-end ---

This error-message comes directly after starting thunar.
While ending by fault he ( ;-) ) doesn't give a message.

I just installed hal. I think aptitude removes hotplug while installing hal.
Now the error disappear!

Thanks for helping!

PS: That's for xfce, too! It's really great!
