Thanks for reporting, I can confirm the bug. Switching "Show Thumbnails" to "always" leads only to "gvfsd going up to 30% CPU load and a real bad browsing speed, partly unresponsive. (See Bug #12111) (Phone mounted by clicking "file transfere" on the phone as mtp:// )
I can reproduce the problem as well for thunar 1.6.x
