My machines run openSUSE 12.3 with xfce 4.10.0-7.3.1 from official distribution's repository. In ~/Desktop there are several symlinks to .desktop files in /usr/share/applications/, e.g.
  ~/Desktop/gimp.desktop -> /usr/share/applications/gimp.desktop
Beginning with the xfce version delivered with openSUSE 12.3, a double click on one of these symlinks generates a dialog "Untrusted Application Laucher" which tells me that the file is in an insecure location and not marked as exectuable. Then I have to click "Launch Anyway" (or "Cancel" if I changed my mind).

I don't see the point of this dialog box. /usr/share/applications is owned by root and I trust it very much. The symlink to it is owned by myself.

I can workaround this problem by copying the .desktop files into ~/Desktop (as opposed to symlinking them), but system updates from openSUSE will not reach these copies then.

Therefore, I propose to add a configuration option which, if activated, disables this dialog box and returns to the old behaviour.

This is something implemented in Thunar, marking duplicate of open Thunar bug.
